Lansing Rebounds, Throttles Bobcats

Lansing made certain it would stay in the loss column very long.

The Lions rebounded from their first loss of the season earlier in the week, and throttled Basehor-Linwood, 59-41 on Friday night at Lansing High.

Lansing, No. 13 in the 810 Varsity Top 25, met with Basehor-Linwood in a meeting of Kaw Valley League leaders, along with Piper which dealt the Lions a 62-55 loss on Tuesday.

The Lions opened with hot shooting and tenacious defense, led by Joe Schneider’s nine first-quarter points and five Bobcats turnovers, for a quick 18-8 lead after one stanza.

Meanwhile, leading scorer Chase Younger and Ben Johnson in his second game back, were held scoreless in the first half. By then, Lansing had built a 34-12 lead.

Schneider paced the Lions with 13 points. Khalil Bailey finished with 11, including a dunk at the end of the third quarter to bring the packed house to its feet.

The Bobcats, 4-3 overall, were led by Tim Sanders’ 14 points. Basehor-Linwood suffered its second straight blowout loss after the break, and will play in the Basehor-Linwood Invitational next week vs. St. Joe Benton on Monday at 7:30 pm.

Lansing, 8-1, will play in the Tonganoxie Invitational against Eudora at 7:30 pm on Monday.
